Motor Removal

Fellow Magnum owners .... my trusty Yamaha 9.9 needs maintenance out of the boat.  Any ideas on removal & replacement.  It is the mechanical handling over the side of the hull that I am needing advice on.

Re: Motor Removal

Very easy I did this not long ago. Put the motor down and wind up the jocky wheel until motor rests on the ground. Unbolt the motor then wind down the jockey wheel until the motor can be removed from the well via the bottom of the boat. You may have to choke up the jockey wheel to move the boat the range you want to remove the motor but I have done this and it saves manhandling the motor over the side and there is less lifting. cheers Stuart

Re: Motor Removal

Stuart, thanks for your post.  Sounds too good to be true.
Did you manage this with the standard Magnum bomb bay doors, a Yamaha FT9.9AES (or similar) & a dual axle Mackay trailer ??  That's exactly what my good lady suggested, that it might be able to be removed from below.  But I couldn't imagine how I could lower it to the ground.  Does your Magnum, Motor & trailer match my description above ??  How may hands were on the job ??  I have my (stronger) son to help.

Re: Motor Removal

Yes, that is exactly my setup . you just have to chock the trailer so you can lower the jockey wheel right down to the ground  to be able to have the motor clear of the well. I did this on my own but much easier if you have someone wind down the jockey wheel while you steady the motor.

cheers
