Cruising in 2008:

A trip to Lake Macquarie and the Myall Lakes in January 2008 is being planned by members of the Geelong Trailable Yacht Club and the president of the Magnum Yacht Association. An invitation is extended to all members of Yachting Victoria affiliated Yacht Clubs and Class Associations to join these cruises. A few Magnums will be going so why not join them.

The rough plan is to spend about a week to 10 days at each venue, with participating boats able to be involved in both cruises or to choose just one. The starting date for the first cruise, Lake Macquarie is early January with the cruise of the Myall Lakes later in January. The road trip from Lake Macquarie is only half a day. An optional cruise on the Hawkesbury is also suggested on the return trip.

Contact Graeme King if you are interested.

Refuge Cove Cruise:
Cruise in company with like-minded Magnum owners to one of the most beautiful coves on the Australian coast. Skippers are reminded that this is an opportunity to taste the real ocean so safety gear and preparation is paramount. Note that this is a 'cruise in company' ... not a cruise organised by the MYA. Skippers must take full responsibility for the safety of their crew and boat. In case of unfavourable easterly weather, Tin Mine Cove in Corner Inlet is a stunning alternative destination. Contact Saxil Tuxen for more information.

Magnum Easter Cup and Get Together:

This has been a great annual event for a number of years now and for those that have not attended in the past it is an enjoyable time meeting up at Duck Arm on the Gippsland Lakes on Easter Saturday socializing with other Magnum Owners. It is very much a family oriented event with Activities for the kids and Grown ups, Champagne provided at the Cocktail Hour on Saturday, Games, prizes, a visit from the Easter Bunny and a fun race (no Spinnakers) on Easter Sunday that the whole family can join in. Last year some boats were helmed by the kids and all enjoyed nibbles and drinks in the lounge at the Gippsland Lakes Yacht Club in Paynesville afterwards. The Gippsland Lakes Yacht Club has recently completed extensions including the building and marina pens with new additional public berths (pontoons) included.

Tassie cruise:
Three Magnums joined eight other boats in a memorable cruise of Tasmania's D'entrecasteaux Channel and the Freycinet Peninsula in 2007. A lot of people want to do it again so why not put this one in your long term planner (and book some leave). If you have a bit more time, the Gordon and Pieman Rivers on the west coast and the Tamar River on the north coast are also well worth a few days each. We have 6 boats confirmed for this cruise which will coincide with the Hobart Wooden Boat Festival.  Contact: John Weatherley

February 19 - 20, 2011

Martha Cove Weekend:

This event is all about fun and numbers on the water and is an opportunity not to be missed! Contact Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron on 5988 8453

Goulburn River Cruise:
*** UPDATE *** Due to the closure of Lake Nagambie on the original date, we have had to alter the cruise to this earlier date. Apologies for any inconvenience.
Five Magnums did the picturesque Goulburn River cruise in 2010 and everyone said they wanted to do it again. Lunch at the wineries with a tasting session included. This is a very easy weekend with a launch at Nagambie Lake which is only a 1.5 hour trip from Melbourne. And you don't even have to rig the boat because you can leave your mast at home! Queenscliff weekend:
Queenscliff is definitely the best destination on Port Phillip Bay. It has a new marina complex to make it easier to access the delights of this historic town. Depending on the weather you could launch at Queenscliff or you could sail from Martha Cove, Sorrento, Geelong or even from the top of the Bay. If you want to come on this cruise, please go to the Queenscliff Harbour website and download the Visitor Berth Registration form to book a pen at the marina. (Note that many Australian marinas including this one now require that your insurance includes a $10 million third party cover. It costs very little to change from $5m to $10m.) April 22 - 25, 2011

Easter at the Lakes:
This is always the biggest get-together of Magnums each year. A great social event and if you want, you can join the race for the Magnum Cup. Contact Paul Jenkins.
Our event coincides with the GLYC Easter Regatta and Paynesville Rendezvous hosted by the Trailable Yacht Division of Yachting Victoria and the Gippsland Lakes Yacht Club. This new event combines the long established GLYC racing program (the Easter Regatta) with a social, education, and cruise program of the Paynesville Rendezvous. It would be great if the crew of the Magnum fleet could partipate in this event in some way. For further information contact Rob Ballard of the TYD (robert.ballard3@bigpond.com) or James Frecheville, GLYC Promotions Officer (frecheboat@netspace.net.au)
