Social Activity

The Magnum Association is a family oriented and friendly group who enjoy assisting others and welcome all newcomers.  Several functions are traditionally held through the year, which are fun and informative.  There is endless conversation about sailing experiences, tricks of the trade we learn along the way.  These include technical ideas and how to get the most out of the Magnum 8.5 Yacht.

Magnum Easter Cup

Every Easter we meet at the Gippsland Lakes which is traditionally our biggest get together as far as sailing goes.  We have had as many as 15 Magnums all lined up at Duck Arm for a get together and the infamous Magnum Cup Yacht briefing.

We conduct the race with assistance from the Gippsland Yacht Club around a a set course in Lake Victoria and finish with a presentation and refreshments at the Yacht Club.

This event is not too serious; well it can be as serious as you want; and we do actually have a few competitive people in our club.  You know what they say: 'Any two boats sailing together and its a race'.

Winter Dinner

Every winter between June and July the Victorian Members get together for the annual 'Winter Dinner'. This is just another social occasion, full of hype and sailing gossip. We have had over 30 attend these dinners at some interesting venues often with warm friendly ambience for relaxing and enjoyable socialising and we normally arrange for a guest speaker covering sailing related topics. Several years ago our speaker was Rudy Waalkens, the original builder of the South Coast Magnum 8.5 trailable yacht.

Christmas Function

The annual Christmas function is always fun and is intended for the whole family to enjoy.
